The Federal Government has officially backed the ambitious Abuja Cooperative City Project, a landmark housing initiative set to deliver 10,000 affordable homes under the Renewed Hope Affordable Housing Agenda.

At a stakeholder coordination meeting in Abuja, representatives from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, cooperative leaders, and private sector partners reaffirmed their commitment to making home ownership more accessible for workers and cooperative members.

What the Project Offers

The Abuja Cooperative City will be located on 700 hectares in Jibi town, behind Mopol Barracks, Dei-Dei, along the Kubwa Expressway. Planned features include:
• A mix of housing units: from one-bedroom bungalows to five-bedroom detached homes.
• Green and energy-efficient designs.
• Essential amenities like schools, health centres, markets, and landscaped areas.
• A clean-energy bus service for easy commuting.

Why It Matters

Professor Emmanuel Iyaji, Secretary General of the Abuja Cooperative Federation, highlighted that this project is a dream come true for many workers who have long wanted to own a home in Abuja. Similarly, project consultants and private partners stressed that this is not just about housing, but about building sustainable neighbourhoods, creating jobs, and stimulating the local economy.

Greennet’s Take

At Greennet Property Consults Ltd, we see the Abuja Cooperative City Project as a clear signal that affordable housing in Abuja is becoming a reality. With thousands of jobs expected to be generated and strong backing from both public and private stakeholders, this project sets a new benchmark for large-scale housing delivery in Nigeria.

For prospective homeowners, especially cooperative members from organizations such as CBN, FIRS, NNPC, the Police Service Commission, and the Federal Judicial Service Commission, this development represents a golden opportunity to own property in the FCT at more affordable rates.

Final Thoughts

This project is more than real estate — it’s about inclusive growth, innovation, and building communities where families can thrive. At Greennet, we are excited to
